‘Groomes’

There are records of the land at Groomes dating back to 1218, with the oldest part of the house dating back to 1600, later expanded in 1850 and 1908.

My grandparents relocated here in 1942, transforming it from a rented farm to their permanent home. Despite its commercial farming days ending in the late 1980s, the 185 acres of land have been carefully maintained.

from farm house to country house…

Following my grandmother’s passing, the house stood empty for 25 years, falling into disrepair until 2003 when I embarked on its restoration journey. With determination, a detailed plan, and a skilled team of craftsmen, we painstakingly renovated the entire building, preserving only three original structural timbers. Every aspect, from brickwork to roof, was restored using traditional techniques, ensuring Groomes regained its former glory.

My vision from the outset has been to totally rebuild the house in sympathy with its original layout (there are for example 11 floor levels!) and to make all the rooms unique with features and furnishings unlike any you will find anywhere else.
